Home Remedies for Children's SORE THROAT
- Garlic can help to fight the viral and bacterial
infections responsible for sore throats. Use plenty of garlic in cooking or give 3 Garlic oil tablets daily.
- Red Sage makes an effective gargle for an inflamed
throat. Make an infusion and use warm, twice a day for 5 minutes each time. This may also be drunk as a soothing tea.
- Cinnamon and Ginger can help to ease the sore
throats associated with colds. Warm a little fruit juice such as pineapple, grape or apple in a saucepan and sprinkle in about half a teaspoon of powdered Cinnamon or Ginger for a comforting drink.
- For babies up to 6 months old: add Lavender or
Chamomile essential oil to a base of Almond oil and gently rub into the chest and throat area.
For babies over 6 months old: Tea Tree essential oil can be also be used.
For children over 6 years old: Lemon and Ginger essential oil can be added to this repertoire, used alone or in simple blends of two essences of your choice.
- Make a mouthwash with 4 drops of either Lavender,
Chamomile, Lemon, Ginger or Tea Tree oil in 50 ml of tepid (previously boiled) water. Pour a small amount into a glass and ask your child to take a mouthful, swishing the mixture around his mouth for 30 seconds. It also helps to gargle with the mixture before spitting it away.
