Home Remedies for Children's NAPPY RASH
- Keep the skin as dry as possible by changing nappies
as soon as they are wet or soiled.
- Wash and rinse your baby with dean water (no soap
or scented wipes), paying special attention to all the creases, wiping from front to back in girls. Pat dry with a soft towel unless the area is sore, in which case use a hairdryer on a very gentle heat.
- Let baby go without a nappy for frequent periods
each day. Place him on several thicknesses of towel with a plastic sheet or changing mat underneath to soak up any urine.
- Try changing your brand of nappy for a more
absorbent variety. Cloth nappies may be softer on the skin than disposable ones, and therefore useful during a bout of nappy rash.
- Apply Calendula (marigold) cream to the area each
time you change a nappy.
- Powdered Cornflower or Arrowroot make good
substitutes for ordinary talcum powder, as they are soothing and will not dry the skin.
- Chamomile and Lavender are helpful for soothing and
healing the skin. When washing baby's bottom add 1 drop of each essence to a bowl of warm water. Dip cotton wool in this solution, use dean cotton wool for each wipe.
- After the last nappy change before bedtime, gently
apply an aromatherapy oil made with Chamomile and Lavender in a base of Jojoba oil.
