Home Remedies for Children's LICE AND NITS
- While treating the hair and scalp you should wash
everything that comes in contact with the head - bedding, hats, scarves, headbands - with soap powder. Combs and brushes can be washed in a little special aromatherapy shampoo (see below).
- As a deterrent, especially if there is an outbreak of
lice at your child's nursery or school, wash the hair once a week with a shampoo containing the following essential oils:
For children over 1 year old: 6 drops of Geranium to 30 ml of mild shampoo. Apply to dry hair and cover the head with a shower cap for 10 minutes. After rinsing thoroughly, rinse hair with 1 cup (240 ml) of water containing 2 drops of the same essence. Comb through with a fine-toothed comb.
For children over 6 years old: use a blend of Geranium, Rosemary and Lemon, 3 drops of each essence to 30 ml of a mild shampoo and use in the same way as above.
10 drops Geranium 10 drops Rosemary 5 drops Lemon 5 drops Tea Tree
Add the essential oils to 50 ml of Almond or Grapeseed oil. Massage about 10 ml of this blend very thoroughly into the hair and scalp. Comb through, wrap the hair up in a dry towel and leave on for at least 2 hours, longer if possible, before shampooing out. Rinse with the appropriate aromatherapy hair rinse and comb hair with a fine-toothed comb. Repeat 2 days later, and again after 8 days to prevent re-infestation.
