Home Remedies for Children's INFLUENZA
- Although your child is unlikely to want to eat, it is a
good idea to sustain nourishment with plenty of freshly squeezed fruit and vegetable juices diluted with water. Try to tempt him with delicious blends such as carrot and apple, grape and kiwi fruit, tangerine and papaya. Limit to 5 fl oz (150 ml) of each juice blend a day.
- Vitamin C will help to fight the infection. Give 500 mg
3 times a day (half this dose for children under 3).
- During recovery it is important to build up zinc
reserves, as this mineral supports the immune system.
- Echinacea will help to fight off the flu virus and
revitalize the immune system. Use 5 to 10 drops of tincture in fruit juice or mineral water.
- A combination of Elderflower and Peppermint is good
for relieving the symptoms of flu. Ideally, give herbal teas every hour or two, interspersed with diluted fruit juices or hot lemon and honey drinks.
- Eucalyptus essential Oil can help to ease congestion.
Sprinkle a few drops onto a tissue and tuck into your child's pillow, or place a few drops in a bowl of steaming water in the bedroom.
- For children over 5 try a steam inhalation: add 2-3
drops of Eucalyptus in a basin of steaming hot water, cover the head with a towel and encourage deep breathing through the nose. Always supervise your child during a steam inhalation treatment.
