Home Remedies for Children's FEEDING PROBLEMS
- Never try to bribe your child into eating, or use food
as a reward. Eating is about nourishment and pleasure. To use it for any other purpose may sow the seeds for emotional problems with food in the future.
- Even if you are worried about how much and what
your child is eating, try to conceal it. Once aware of your concern, a child is likely to play on it for the sake of getting what he wants.
- To encourage a healthy appetite it is better that
your child eats small quantities of a variety of different nutrient-rich foods than larger amounts of 'junk food'. It may be helpful to give a broad spectrum vitamin and mineral supplement daily if your child is a poor eater, lacks vitality or is recovering from an illness.
- Loss of appetite may be a symptom of nutritional
deficiencies. In children a lack of iron is linked to poor appetite and growth as well as a reduced resistance to infection.
- When zinc levels are low the senses of taste and
smell are dulled so that foods taste bland and eating becomes unenjoyable. Low levels of this mineral are also associated with slow growth.
- If you are genuinely concerned about your child's
growth levels, a food allergy or nutritional deficiency, it is important to consult a qualified nutritionist.
