Home Remedies for Children's EARACHE AND EAR INFECTIONS
- If your baby seems to have earache, avoid the
temptation to clean his ears and don't take him out into a cold wind.
- An old-fashioned remedy for earache involves putting
a piece of cotton wool soaked in slightly warm (not hot) extra-virgin olive oil into the ear. To enhance the beneficial effect of this remedy, add 1 drop of Lavender and 1 drop of Chamomile essence to 1 teaspoon of olive oil, mix well and soak the cotton wool in this mixture. Make sure the cotton wool ball is big enough so that it cannot be pushed right into the ear.
For children over 7 years old: add 1 drop of Basil essence to this blend.
- For immediate relief try holding a warm hot water
bottle wrapped in a towel to the ear.
- Mullein and Yarrow are traditional herbal remedies for
earache. Mullein flowers steeped in oil have antibacterial and pain-relieving properties. Massage with this oil around the outer ear, particularly behind the ears. A few drops can also be placed into the ear.
- St John's Wort oil is another beneficial remedy.
- An infusion of Yarrow can be applied on cotton wool
as a hot compress to the outside of the ear.
