Home Remedies for Children's CONJUNCTIVITIS
- Conjunctivitis is infectious, so take extra care when
treating your baby or child's eyes. Wash your hands before and after touching them, and avoid sharing towels, bedding or clothes.
- Always bathe the eyes one at a time using a clean
piece of cotton wool for each eye. Wipe from the inner to the outer comer of each eye.
- A sea salt solution has cleansing and mild antiseptic
properties. Bathing the eyes with this simple solution keeps them free of discharge and usually clears conjunctivitis.
- Bathing baby's eyes in a little freshly expressed
breast milk can also be effective.
- Eyebright is reputed by herbalists to be the best herb
for treating the eyes. It has both cleansing and strengthening properties. Make an infusion or add a few drops of Eyebright tincture to 1 cup (240 ml) of boiled water. Allow to cool and strain. Soak a ball of cotton wool in the solution, squeeze away the excess and gently wipe the eyes. For older children you could use an eye bath.
