Natural Home Treatment for Amnesia (Loss of Memory)

Home Remedies for Amnesia (Loss of Memory).

Amnesia refers to partial or complete loss of memory.
Different types and degrees of amnesia occur in old age
and in some mental disorders.

The most common form of this disease is verbal amnesia.
In this condition, the patient forgets words or names. An
uncommon form of amnesia is temporary loss of memory, in
which a person even forgets his own identity, including his
name, age, family background, and any recollection of the
past.

The main cause of amnesia is the Impairment of brain cells
by diseases which affect them directly or indirectly, due to
a poor blood supply caused by circulatory diseases. Poor
memory also results from dullness of intellect and
weakness of the brain.
Many cases are, however, largely psychological in origin. They are caused by anxiety neurosis, resulting from
attention-seeking in persons obsessed with their own problems. Temporary loss of memory may result from an
    injury.

    Herbal  for Loss of Memory

Several herbs are excellent for enhancing brain function. The following herbs are safe to take over a long period
of time and can be thought of as "brain tonics." In fact, they work best when taken for at least three months or
    longer.

Ginkgo (Ginkgo biloba) is probably the best herb for improving mental functioning. Derived from the leaves of an
ancient tree that dates back to prehistoric times, ginkgo has been used for centuries in China to improve brain
function. It contains flavonoid compounds called ginkgo heterosides and terpene lactones that have potent
antioxidant properties, enhance circulation, and inhibit dangerous blood clots that can lead to brain-damaging
strokes. Ginkgo has been proven in numerous studies to improve symptoms of mental decline related to impaired
blood flow to the brain such as memory loss, mental confusion, and difficulties in concentrating. Ginkgo has even
been shown to be beneficial in many cases of senile dementia, including the early stages of Alzheimer's disease.
Take an extract of ginkgo standardized to contain 24 percent ginkgo hetero-sides (ginkgo flavone glycosides), 80
    milligrams three times a day.

Siberian ginseng (Eleutherococcus senticosus) is a tonic herb that helps the body to more easily adapt to
    physical, mental, and
emotional stressors. It strengthens and balances the nervous system and provides a mild energy boost that
helps to improve mental focus. In several studies, people taking Siberian ginseng demonstrated marked
improvement on cognitive function tests, including an increased ability to concentrate, quicker reaction time, and
improved memory. Take an extract standardized for eleutherosides, 250 milligrams twice daily. Siberian ginseng is
best used cyclically, taking the herb for two months followed by a two-week break before resuming the dosage. If
you have high blood pressure, consult your doctor before taking any type of ginseng.

Gotu kola (Centella asiatica) is an Indian herb that is considered to be an important rejuvenative tonic in
    Ayurvedic medicine for
the brain and nerve cells. It has long been used in India as a brain tonic, where it is taken to increase intelligence
and memory and to ward off senility. Because of its calming properties, gotu kola is believed to be one of the
most spiritual of all herbs and is used to  heighten awareness for meditation practices. Gotu kola is a pretty plant
that is easily grown indoors. You can add several leaves to a salad daily, or take one-half teaspoon of extract in
warm water three times a day.

    Rosemary:
The most remarkable remedy for loss of memory or forgetfulness is the use of the herb rosemary, botanically
known as Romarinus officinalis. Rosemary has long been regarded as a herb for remembrance. In ancient times,
the Greeks and the Romans prepared fragrant distilled water from the flowers of this plant and inhaled the odour
so that "the evils were destroyed from the mind and the memory no longer played tricks." Rosemary is
considered to be an antidote for mental fatigue and Forgetfulness. A tea made from this herb, taken once or
twice a day, is a refreshing drink and an effective natural remedy for enhancing menial agility.

    Almonds:
Almonds are very valuable for restoring a poor memory caused by brain weakness. They contain unique
properties to remove brain debility and to strengthen the brain. Almonds preserve the vitality of the brain and
cure ailments originating from nervous disorders. Ten to twelve almonds should be immersed in water overnight
and their outer skin removed. They should then be made into a fine paste and taken, mixed with one teaspoonful
of butter or even alone. Inhaling ten to fifteen drops of almond oil through the nose, morning and evening, is also
beneficial in the treatment of brain weakness.

    Walnuts:
Walnut is another unique dry fruit valuable in countering brain weakness. About twenty grams of walnuts should
be taken every day. The value of walnuts is enhanced if they are taken with figs or raisins in a proportion of ten
    gram each, everyday.

    Apples:
Apples are useful in amnesia. The various chemical substances contained in this fruit such as vitamin B,,
phosphorus, and potassium help in the synthesis of glutamic acid. This acid controls the wear and tear of nerve
cells. Eating an apple a day with one tea-spoon of honey and one cup of milk is beneficial in the treatment of loss
of memory and mental irritability. It acts as an effective nerve tonic and recharges the nerves with new energy
    and life.

    Other Fruits:
All fruits which are rich in phosphorus are valuable mitigations of amnesia, as they invigorate the brain cells and
tissues. Apart from apples, almonds, and walnuts, which have been discussed earlier, other phosphorus-rich
fruits are figs, grapes, oranges, and dates. Their intake is highly beneficial in loss of memory due to brain debility.

    Black Pepper:
Five seeds of finely ground black pepper, mixed with one teaspoon of honey are also beneficial in the treatment
of this condition. This preparation should be taken both in the morning and evening.

If you simply want to preserve healthy mental functioning and are not suffering from memory loss, you can make
your own herbal formula to use as a brain tonic. However, if you currently have noticeable memory loss or other
symptoms of decreased cognitive functioning, it's best to take standardized extracts of ginkgo and Siberian
    ginseng.

Aroma Therapy for Loss of Memory

Transient mental fogginess can be caused by overthinking, overworking, and fatigue. Essential oils can help to
clear the mind, relieve fatigue, and sharpen your mental' focus.

Rosemary and basil are two of the best essential oils for stimulating brain function. Place a drop or two of either
one (or a combination of both) on a handkerchief and inhale the fragrance as needed, or make the following air
freshener to spray into the air when you need a boost of mental clarity.

Lifestyle Suggestions for Improving Brain Function

The way you live on a daily basis has a great deal to do with how your brain functions today and how healthy
your cognitive abilities will remain as you age. Make sure that you are getting enough sleep, because sufficient
rest is necessary for your brain to function properly. Some of the primary symptoms of sleep deprivation are
memory loss, difficulties concentrating, and impairment in cognitive abilities. If you have trouble sleeping, try
taking a warm bath before bed with two cups of Epsom salts dissolved in the water; these are rich in magnesium
and help to relax the body and the nervous system. Drinking a cup of chamomile or passionflower tea can also
help to calm the mind and induce restful sleep. For more suggestions for treating insomnia, Click Here

As important as is proper rest, physical exercise is equally essential for healthy brain function. Aerobic exercise
improves circulation, which increases the supply of oxygen and nutrients to your brain. Regular exercise also
helps to prevent atherosclerosis, high blood pressure, and other degenerative diseases that contribute to
    impaired mental function.

A daily walk is an excellent way to alleviate emotional stress.  Yoga is also effective for cultivating mental clarity.
The deep, rhythmical breathing and gentle stretching of yoga help to calm the body and mind, increase
circulation, and bring renewed energy to the brain by enhancing oxygenation of the brain cells. Breathing
exercises  have been used for centuries by yoga practitioners to cultivate increased mental clarity and focus.

Try the following yoga breathing exercise to refresh your mind. In this exercise, the exhalation is forceful, sharp,
and quick, while the inhalation is spontaneous, fluid, and easy.
