Hand Healing for Headache
Hand Healing Methods to Alleviate Headache Pain
Palm Healing is especially effective in relieving headache pain. In addition to restoring a more normal balance of energy, it establishes a warmth between parent and child. It helps to ease stress, tension, and anxiety, and soothes and relaxes the child.
For pain in the front of the head. This application can be done with your child sitting in a comfortable, relaxed position. Sit facing your child's side. Keep a straight but relaxed posture. Extend your arms and place one palm directly in front of you on the back of your child's head. Close your eyes and breathe with a quiet, gentle rhythm. The sound of "Su" may also be added when you exhale. Remove your hands after 15 to 20 minutes.
For headaches caused by blocked sinuses. This application is divided into two procedures. In the first, the palms are applied to loosen stagnation in the general area of the sinuses. In the second, energy is focused on specific points within the sinuses.
Begin by placing one hand gently over your child's eyes so that the center of your palm covers the bridge of his nose. Place your other hand directly opposite on the back of his head. Breathe as above and apply the palms for 5 to 7 minutes. (This method can also be used to relieve discomfort due to eyestrain.)
Next, lightly apply the fingers of one hand to the sinus points illustrated in Figure 7.4. (Use your thumb, index, and middle or ring fingers.) Place your other hand on the back of your child's head, opposite to the cheeks and forehead. Close your eyes and breathe with a gentle, quiet rhythm. The sound of "Su" may be added on the exhalation while you are gently vibrating your fingers. After 1 0 to 15 minutes, rapidly detach your palms and fingers.
For pain in the side of the head. Sit or stand (if your child is sitting in a chair) behind your child. Extend your arms and place your palms lightly on the sides of your child's head or on both sides of the top of the head, if this region is painful. Breathe as above, and apply the palms for 10 to 15 minutes before slowly removing them.
For pain in the back of the head. Sit next to your child, facing his side. Place one hand gently on the region of the back of his head where the pain is centered, the other on his forehead. Breathe as above and remove the hands after about 10 to 15 minutes.
For pain deep inside the head. Pain in the inner regions of the head can be approached in several ways.
Sit behind your child and gently place one hand on top of his head. Breathe as above and remove your hand after 10 to 15 minutes.
Sit behind your child and gently cover his ears with your palms, so that the center of the palm covers the center of the ear. Breathe and continue as above.
Sit facing your child's side and place one hand gently on the back of his head and the other on his forehead. Breathe and continue as above. (This method is similar to that used for pain in the back of the head.)
If your child becomes distracted before the application is finished, pause a few minutes and then proceed. It is better, however, for the application to be continuous, without interruption. Therefore, before beginning, try to help your child relax by telling him a story or by singing him a song. Also, when he is old enough, explain to him in simple language how Palm Healing works and how it helps him to feel better. If your child is too active to sit still, you can use Palm Healing while he is sleeping. Posture can be adjusted when necessary.
